In the world of plastic mold outsourcing, missed deadlines and delivery delays are all too common. For many overseas buyers, it’s frustrating to see tooling timelines slip, trial runs repeated, and final samples still failing key tests—often stalling the entire product launch.
While most assume that the issue lies in poor factory capacity or lack of manpower, the root causes are far deeper and more systemic. Based on years of hands-on experience in mold making, project management, and engineering, I’ve summarized the top reasons why mold delivery from Chinese suppliers is difficult to control—and what buyers can do to stay ahead of the risks.
1. Language Barriers + Knowledge Gaps = Miscommunication from Day One
Most Chinese mold salespeople can speak English but don’t understand mold engineering. That means they often take RFQs and drawings at face value, without being able to identify critical technical concerns or optimization opportunities.
Without a mold engineer in the loop during initial discussions, key issues go unnoticed until production begins. By then, fixing them requires structural changes, repeated mold trials, and ultimately delays the entire project.
A good salesperson can quote prices. A good engineer prevents costly mistakes.
2. Factory Cooperation Problems and Lack of Export Experience
Many mold factories in China can physically build a mold, but have zero experience serving overseas clients. As a result, they struggle to meet expectations in these areas:
